A.J. Lambert, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, August, 27, 2013 at the Wellmont Hospice House.

He was born in Nora, VA the son of the late George Lambert and Frances Sutherland Lambert. After graduating from Lincoln Memorial University in 1956 he returned to Dickenson County, VA to assist in managing the family coal operations, serving as the President of Lambert Coal Company since 1983.

He performed volunteer work for the Shrine Temple and was an active supporter of the Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts of America.

He was an avid golfer, who pursued his passion for the game both far and wide.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Ann Powell Lambert; sister, Linda Loftin; and two brothers, Elmer Lambert and Norman Sutherland.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Lambert; four sisters, Bernice Pegram and husband Worthy, Abbie Amos, Rose Short, and Joan McGirt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Reverend John E. Massey, Jr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the George and Frances Lambert Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 191, Abingdon, VA 24212.
