Albert Thurman Tom Lawson, Sr., age 74, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Gospel Tabernacle. He was a member of Abingdon Masonic Lodge No. 48 and retired from Wright Equipment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lawson and Lillie Elva Quesenberry Lawson; step-mother, Ola Mae Lawson; infant twin brother, Elbert Herman Lawson; brother, Michael Dean Lawson; three sisters, Judy Lawson Marshall, Shirley Lawson Fowler, and Marie Lawson Brookman.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Brenda Boyd Lawson; two sons, Albert Thurman A.J. Lawson, Jr. and wife Charlotte Janie of Abingdon, Va. and Anthony Todd Lawson and wife Lisa of Andrews, Texas; daughter, Tammy Lawson Larkey and husband Eric of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, Lonnie Taylor and wife Connie of Dublin, Va. and Daniel Lawson and wife Ann; sister, Janet Taylor Branch all of Pulaski, Va.; seven grandchildren, Cody Thompson, Adam Larkey, Taylor Lawson, Sarah Grace Larkey, Jacob Lawson, Ethan Lawson, and Emily Lawson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Carlie Fuller officiating. The brethren of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge No. 48 will provide Masonic funeral rites. A committal service will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard will provide military honors. Pallbearers will be Danny Asbury, Jack Cole, Adam Larkey, Bobby Thomas, David Thomas, and Gary Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Breeding and Jerry Larkey. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2nd at the funeral home.
