Alex Ferrell

Mr. Alex Ferrell, age 82, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was born March 25, 1934 in Buchanan County, Va. to the late Earl Ferrell and the late Alice Meadows Ferrell.

Alex enjoyed working with wood, hunting, and making concrete lawn ornaments. He also enjoyed planting trees.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one son, Randy Ferrell; one granddaughter, Jennifer Matney; two sisters, Climmie Wricker and Pearl Blankenship; three brothers, Raymond Ferrell, James Ferrell, and Jay Ferrell.

Alex is survived by his wife Donie Horn Ferrell; two daughters, Patsy Walter and husband, Jeff of Auburn, Indiana and Brenda Matney and friend, Ralph of Abingdon, Va.; one son, Michael Ferrell of Meadowview, Va.; five grandchildren, Shannon Walter VanAuken, Tabitha Walter McMahon, Stephanie Walter Weber, Rodney Matney, and Kevin Matney; four great-grandchildren, Austin VanAuken, Annissa McMahon, Averi Weber, and Dalton Matney; two great-great-grandchildren, Lillie VanAuken and Karliah Van Auken; one sister, Gladis Ferrell Art of Freemont, Ohio; one brother, Ray Ferrell of West Virginia.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia with Pastor Tim Norris and Preacher Eddie Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery in Buchanan County, Va.. Memorial may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
