Allene Armentrout Collins, age 90, of Abingdon, went to be with the Lord on December 28, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles R. Collins. Allene was a longtime member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Washington County Department of Social Services. She loved family, flower gardening, cooking, traveling, and playing dominoes and other table games. She was a great friend and neighbor to many. Allene died in Richmond, VA where she had lived the last two years.
She is survived by her son, Charles W. "Bill" Collins (Merry) of Richmond, and her daughter, Beth Erdman (Dave) of Darnestown, MD, as well as her grandchildren Courtney, Devon, Susan, and Craig, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James Armentrout (Helen) of Gray, TN, her sister, Margaret Carper (Charles) of Colonial Heights, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Allene Collins will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in West End Cemetery in Wytheville, VA at 3 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210.
