Abingdon, VA- Alma Aliff Jarrell, age 91, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at her home. She was born to the late Charles Aliff, Sr. and Mary Austin Aliff on August 27, 1923 in Eunice, WV. Alma was a 67 year member of the Eastern Star having served as pianist and Worthy Matron in both Lebanon, VA and Abingdon, VA. She served as the organist and was a longtime member of Abingdon Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, Alma was also preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, William “Bill” Jarrell; two brothers, Charles Aliff, Jr. and Don Aliff; three sisters, Betty Hudson, Creola Holtzman, and Madelyn Kay Miller; and granddaughter, Tammy Davis. She is survived by her son, Larry E. Jarrell and wife Kitty of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Donna F. Campbell of Mooresville, IN; sister, Iris Burnett of Elyria, OH; brother-in-law, Charles Miller of Elyria, OH; sister-in-law, Lois Aliff of Beckley, WV; four grandchildren, Sherri Ebeyer, Lori Reynolds, Bill Bates, and Joey Jarrell; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A cryptside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor John Dawson officiating. The Abingdon Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 182 will perform funeral rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
