Alva Kilby McPherson

Alva Kilby "Nana" McPherson, age 89, passed on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at her grandson's home in Abingdon, VA. Alva was born on May 10, 1923, in Bath, NC and spent most of her life in the Chesapeake, VA area before moving to Abingdon three years ago.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Kilby; husband of 62 years, Howard Rudolph McPherson; and son, James H. McPherson, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Charlotte B. McPherson; four grandchildren, James H. (Angela) McPherson, Jr., Stephen L. (Melina) McPherson, Amy M. (Albert) Hartley, and Jonathan R. (Kelly) McPherson; ten great-grandchildren, James III, Seth, Ryan, Dylan, Evan Mae, Victoria, Samuel, Joseph, Charlotte, and Jonathan.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Hope Haven Chapel in Virginia Beach, VA with Rev. John Gray of Union Mission Ministries officiating. Visitation with the family will be held directly after the service.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southwest Virginia , her caregivers, and Hope Haven for their services and kindness expressed to Nana and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Mission Ministries, 3000 North Landing Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, in Mrs. McPherson's name.
