Alvena Casteel Davis

Alvena Crawley Casteel Davis, on March 25, 2019, our beloved “Casteel”, age 94, made her final journey to her forever destination.  “Casteel” was born on December 8, 1924, in Morrison, Tenn., to the late Willie Oscar and Josie Eliza Crawley.  “Casteel” was the baby of five girls born into this family.  She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, W.L. “Bill” Casteel; three sisters, Willie Mae Crawley Martin, Elloise Crawley Wells Neal, and Avare Crawley Ramsey; and her second husband, James Davis of Morrison, Tenn. 

“Casteel” is survived by her only child, Patricia Lynn “Patty” Casteel Denton; three grandchildren:  Ashley Dawn Denton Boles (Robby); Megan Elaine Denton Ringstaff (Josh); and William M. Denton; sister, Audrene Crawley Sissom; and several nieces and nephews.   

She moved to Bristol at the age of 18, where she met the love of her life, Bill, at Universal Aircraft.  They married on May 27, 1944, and bought the precious little white house on Alabama Street, Bristol, Tenn.  Later, they bought their last home on Meadow Wood Drive in the Meadow Wood Subdivision.  They were married for 44 years until her love passed from this Earth.  Along with her husband, Bill, “Casteel” owned and operated Hatcher’s Cleaners and Laundry and two Wash-A-Ramas.   

A memorial service will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. with Minister Bill Haywood, Pastor Scott Price, Father Boyd Evans, and Dr. Adrian Farmer, PhD, MHCA, CCC officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn.  Visitation will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  The family will receive visitors at Alvena’s home, 241 Gillespie Dr., Abingdon, VA.
