Abingdon, VA Andrew Jennings Hargroves, Jr., of Abingdon, Va., passed away peacefully on November 9, 2015 at his home, surrounded by family. Andy, 75, was a local real estate developer and restauranteur. He served in the United States Air Force before moving back to his hometown of Abingdon, where he started a career in real estate. He was active in many local art and civic organizations. He was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and served on various boards. Andy loved art and architecture. He designed many houses and buildings for friends, and he could amaze you with his many talents. Yet he was always humble about his accomplishments. He loved to learn new things and enjoyed making people laugh. He was predeceased by his parents, Jeannette and Jennings Hargroves. Andy is survived by his wife, Genie Pond Hargroves; two sons, John Andrew Hargroves and Todd Jennings Hargroves; four granddaughters, Hannah Barret Hargroves, Carly Drew Hargroves, Olivia Leigh Hargroves, and Alaina Kay Hargroves; two sisters, Jean Hargroves White and husband David, and Lucy Wolf and husband Wayne. He also had a large extended family. Andy’s creative, generous, and fun loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, One Partnership Circle, Abingdon, Va.
