Andrew John Mears, 78, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his home.
He was born October 20, 1932 in Newark, OH and was the son of the late Chester and Kathryn Mears. He had moved to Abingdon 18 years ago, and had worked at Kaiser Aluminum and was a member of the Creeper Trail Club. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, David Mears and sisters, Mary, Patricia, Barbara and Donna.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta Jean Mears of Abingdon; his son, Michael Mears and wife, Denise; daughter, Audrey Lynn Stradley and husband, Mike all of Ohio; grandson, Danny Mears and wife, Alison are currently stationed at the Goldsboro, NC AFB; brothers, Jerry, Jim, Robert, and Mark of Newark and Joseph Mears of Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 7, 2011 at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, VA with Bill Haywood, Minister, officiating. Military honors will also be conducted by Casey-Short VFW Post #9640 from Richlands, VA. Honorary pallbearers are The Creeper Trail Club family and special nephews, Brendan and Rainen Blankenship. The funeral procession will leave Farris Funeral Service at 11:45 A.M. on Monday.
The family will be receiving friends at Farris Funeral Service from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening.
