Ann Gillenwater Broyles, 82, of Glade Spring, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at her home.
She was born on May 8, 1929 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray Gillenwater. Ann was a graduate of the Medical School of Virginia School of Nursing and Johnston Memorial School of Nursing, and she worked for many years at Johnston Memorial Hospital in the Obstetrics Ward. She was a member of Byars Cobbs United Methodist Church and a member of the choir for many years.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lillian Gillenwater, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Broyles.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, William E. Broyles; her son, Danny R. Broyles and his wife Donna; a granddaughter, Dana Broyles-Hutton and her husband Brian; two cousins, Helen Richardson and David Gillenwater; and her very special friend, Molly Buchanan.
A funeral service for Ann Gillenwater Broyles will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Byars Cobbs United Methodist Church, 106 Kirkwood Street, Glade Spring, Virginia, with Rev. Paul T. Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Old Glade Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Byrd, Joe Coleman, Norman Boyd, Joe Taylor, Mickey Smith, and Herbert Vaught. Honorary pallbearers will be Chester Poore, Brian Hutton and Gerald Norris. Friends and family are invited to meet at the cemetery on Thursday morning by 10:50 AM.
