Anna Foster Smith

Anna Foster Smith, 88, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in Johnson City, TN.

She was born July 23, 1922 to the late James W. Foster and Mary Rachel Cato Foster of Emory, VA. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Chilhowie, VA, where she served as assistant superintendent, superintendent; teacher of the primary class, President of the missionary society and secretary of the ladies auxiliary of Southwest Virginia.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Helwig, one son, Nathaniel Fields, Jr. both of Chilhowie; two brothers, Glen Foster, Emory and Donald Foster (Hilda), Damascus; three sisters, Lillie Carter, Bristol, Marie Lampkins and Edith Butler both of Emory; eight grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; step great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Willie Austin and Rev. Dwayne Mabry officiating. The burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Emory. Pallbearers will be Alvin Lomans, Jr., Jay Thompson, Edwin Lomans, Jr., Charles Lee Tucker, Ryan Branch and Mitch Branch. Honorary pallbearers will be willie Thompson, Haskel Shazier, David Lee, Edwin Lomans, Willie Fields, and Claude Branch. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am, Sunday until the time of the service.
