Anna Louise Weaver Farmer

March 9, 1933 — October 21, 2015

Anna Louise (Weaver) Farmer, age 82, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at her home. She was born March 9, 1933, to the late Harry R. Weaver, Sr. and Faye Church Weaver in Grayson County, Va. Louise was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She retired from Bristol Compressors after 20 years of service and was an employee of Magic Mart following her retirement. Louise taught school for a brief period after attending Marion College. She traveled through Europe, living for a time in The Netherlands. She also lived in Bayonne, N.J., but her mark was left in Abingdon, where she was a committed volunteer, serving as the president of the Greendale Elementary School PTA and as a choir mom at Abingdon High School. She touched hundreds of young lives through her generosity and love. She doted on her son and her grandchildren, and was never shy about telling stories about them. She loved to garden and to can, and could sit for hours on the front porch talking and snapping beans. She had a sweet tooth that could not be denied, and she loved yappy little dogs, even when they bit. The rock of her family, she cared for others before herself, and would offer a hand up to stranger or friend alike. Louise was tough, determined and stubborn, and stood up for the people she loved and the things she cared about. She was the hardest worker you would ever meet and seemed to never tire, though the long days and long hours took their toll. Her work done, Louise goes home to Whitetop, Va., and the mountain that was never far from her heart. In addition to her parents, Louise was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis Henry Farmer; and brother, Harry “Buddy” R. Weaver, Jr. She is survived by her son, David William Farmer, and his wife, Erin Macey, of Portland, Maine; granddaughter, Addie Farmer; grandson, Elias Farmer; two nieces, Shannon Weaver of Whitetop and Janie Greer of Lansing, N.C.; great niece, Chetola Greer, of Lansing; cousin, Betty Chalkley of Johnson City, Tenn.; and Sharon and Charlie McCraken of Abingdon, who cared for her and took her into their family as one of their own. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2015, at Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 West Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Parke L. Deans and the Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 27th at the Hampton C. Weaver Cemetery in Whitetop.
