Anna Rasey Elliott

Abingdon, VA – Anna Rasey Elliott, age 91, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at her home. She was born the third daughter of the late Carl Rasey and Lethia Mae Moon Rasey on October 16, 1922 in Otsego, MI. She attended Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo, MI where she received her bachelor’s degree. Following graduation, Anna served in the 3rd Army Air Corps during World War II at the Hunter Army Airfield. It was there that she met her husband, John, and the couple relocated to Southwest Virginia in 1946 where she was employed as an insurance agent at Elliot Insurance Agency. Anna also worked at the Washington County Clerk’s Office and Wholesale Grocery. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott were members of Abingdon United Methodist Church where she served as the chairman of the former Julia Lake Circle and as the president of the Carrie Gillespie Circle. She was also an avid bridge player and golfer. In addition to her parents, Anna was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Wesley Elliott; and two sisters, Betty Pratley and Jane Bollinger. She is survived by her son, John Milton Elliott of the home; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Linda DeBord of Kingsport, TN; Ashley Hall and husband Josh of Blountville, TN; Amber Arrington and husband Trey of Bristol, TN and their children; and Aaron DeBord of Greeneville, TN. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Countiss officiating. Entombment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park where Military Honors will be presented by the Highlands Veteran’s Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Dickie Hopkins, Thomas Elliott Hopkins, and Larry Taylor will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. William Baker, Amedysis Home Health, and Caris Hospice.
