Annie Mae Harris

Mrs. Annie Mae Harris, 93, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Carrington Place in Rural Retreat, Va. She was born May 27, 1923 in Mercer County, W.Va. to the late Sherwood Lindsey Hurst and Polly Mae McKinney Hurst. Mrs. Harris was retired from the Regional State Laboratory in Abingdon. She was a member of the First Church of God of Wytheville. Mrs. Harris loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed watching birds.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years whom she married on Valentine’s Day 1943 and were sweethearts forever, Paul Barker Harris, Sr.; one grandson, Adam Fulton; and one son-in-law, Mike Mowery.

Mrs. Harris is survived by one son, Paul B. Harris, Jr. and wife Laurie of Coe Hill, Ontario, Canada; three daughters, Sarah Fulton and husband Dewey of Emory, Va., Sharon Stevens of Wytheville, Va., and Melanie Mowery of Draper, Va. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va., with Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Pallbearers will be Von Nester, Aaron Montgomery, George Fulton, Dewey Fulton, Jarrad Fulton, Brad Fulton, and Kris Fulton. The family will receive friends from noon until time for service. Family and friends will gather at the home of Dewey and Sarah Fulton following the service.
