Anthony P. Daston

Anthony P. Daston, age 67, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Daston, “Tony”, grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut but made Abingdon, Virginia his home for the past 25 years.  Tony earned his master’s in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University and completed all the coursework toward his doctorate.  He had 40 years of experience working as a mental health professional and retired after 25 years with Frontier Health on May 4, 2018.  Tony had a special interest in people living in poverty with mental health needs.  He was a passionate advocate for the Tennessee Drug Court Program and the Medication Assisted Recovery Program.  Tony was a multi-talented, brilliant man. In his leisure time Tony loved cooking, fishing, and traveling, golfing, spending time with friends, and completing the New York Times crossword puzzle every morning before work.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Daston and Carmella Caggianello Daston.  He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Rana; daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Zach Skipworth; and son, Jacob.  Survivors also include Tony’s sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Frank Ariano; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Cindy Daston; and his four nieces and their families.  Tony is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dana Duncan and her husband, Gerald Moore; his brother-in-law and wife, David and Michele Duncan, and their children. 

A funeral service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, with Pastor G. Scott Homesley officiating.  The family will receive friends and share stories in the fellowship hall at St. John Lutheran Church following the service.
