Arthur (A.D.) Sandefur

Abingdon, VA – Arthur A. (A.D.) Sandefur of Abingdon, Virginia, age 86, passed peacefully to heaven on November 28, 2016.

Arthur was born on September 14, 1930 in Glade Spring, Virginia to Samuel and Hattie (Debord) Sandefur and was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and one sister.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Seymore Sandefur; Children, Brenda and her husband, Craig Weatherly of Bristol, Virginia, David Sandefur of Fries, Virginia, and Dee Dee Galliher of Bristol, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; and many loved friends and extended family.

Arthur was a long time member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was a dedicated husband and father and spent a life dedicated to family and service, retiring after many years from the United States Army and the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia, with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Virginia Army National Guard. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia.
