Glade Spring, VA – Arville Matthew Roark, age 81, passed on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roark was born and raised in Saltville, VA before moving to Glade Spring in 1965. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Sterling Casket Company. Mr. Roark is preceded in death by his parents, James and Gracie Taylor Roark, and siblings, Sambo Roark, Lessie McElraft, and Ervin Roark.
He is survived by two sons, Garland (Brenda) Caywood of Emory, VA, and Glenn (Katrina) Caywood of Glade Spring, VA; three daughters, Delores (Lester) Prater of Glade Spring, VA, Sharon (Jerry) Shortridge of Chilhowie, VA, and Mary (Rob) Rabago of Glade Spring, VA; four brothers, Dee (Sue) Roark of Tannersville, VA, Jimmy (Nancy) Roark of Tannersville, VA, Early (Donna) Roark of Marion, VA, and Jamie (Julie) Roark of Saltville, VA; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 4-6 Sunday, December 4, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Father Craig Wylie and Rev. Tom Sullivan officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. It was Mr. Roark’s wish to be cremated after the service.
