Audrey Findley Addison, age 99, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Bristol, Tn. after a prolonged illness. She was born June 22, 1918 in Washington County, Va., the daughter of the late Rufus R. and Grace Cook Findley. She was raised in her beloved town of Clinchburg, Va. until the Great Depression forced the closing of the logging mill located there. The family moved to their “home place” in the Yellow Springs Community where she lived until her move to Bristol in the mid 1940’s.
She loved reading the Bible, quilting, crocheting, and took great joy in gardening.
A devout follower of Wesleyan Theology, she was an active charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher, held many offices including Sunday School Superintendent, and was an active member of the Women’s Society with Special Mission Recognition in her honor by the Women’s Division General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Addison, Sr.(Bill); infant daughter, Mary Grace; sisters, Francis Ryan, Vida Minnick, and Alma Lee Findley; brothers; Gail Findley, William (Bill) Findley, Harold Findley, and Richard Grace Findley.
She is survived by her son, Bill Addison, Jr. (Barbara), Piney Flats, Tn. and daughter, Martha Grigsby, Bristol, Tn.; grandsons, Shawn Grigsby Bristol, Tn., “T” Grigsby (Christy), Eades, Tn., and Stuart Childress, Fl.; great-grandsons, Connor, Caleb, and Cooper Grigsby, Eades, Tn.
As was her desire to “go up home," a graveside service for Mrs. Addison will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2017 in the Wolfe Cemetery on Fudge Road in the Yellow Springs community of Meadowview, VA with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. If you wish to attend the graveside service we ask for everyone to meet at the cemetery by 9:45 a.m.
