Audrey "Granny" Seymore

Abingdon, VA – Audrey “Granny” Seymore, age 94, was lead peacefully by the hand of the Lord to her heavenly home on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA just one day shy of her 95th birthday. She was born to the late P. H. McVey and Blanche Barlow McVey. She faithfully attended Pilgrim Baptist Church alongside her husband, “Doc”, for many years. Subsequent to raising her family, Audrey worked at the American Furniture Company in Chilhowie, VA. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing dolls, quilting, and fishing with her husband at Bear Tree Lake. In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Thomas Edward “Doc” Seymore; son, Bobby Seymore, Sr.; six brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, Jimmy Cornett, Sr.; and grandson, Danny Edward Seymore. She is survived by two sons, Vernie Seymore and wife Kay, and Tommy Seymore and friend Carla Denton; two daughters, Shirley Sandefur and husband A.D. of Abingdon, VA and JoAnn Cornett all of Abingdon, VA; two brothers; three sisters; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 19 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1:00p.m.-1:45p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Reverend John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from grandsons, granddaughters, and great grandsons. The 1st floor staff of Valley Health Care Center will serve as honorary pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family would like to extend a special thanks to their sister, JoAnn Cornett, for her exceptional care of their mother. The family would also like to recognize the doctors, nurses, CNA’s, and housekeepers at Valley Health Care for their loving kindness toward “Possum”.
