Bessie Sue Hess, age 78, passed away on January 28, 2024, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 5, 1945, in Lebanon, VA, to the late John Lawrence Helton and Claudine Yates Helton.
She cherished her Bible and found comfort in its teachings. In addition to her deep faith, Bessie had a passion for quilting. She would spend hours meticulously creating beautiful quilts, each one a labor of love. Her talent for quilting was admired by all who saw her work. Bessie Sue's quilts will be treasured by her loved ones as a reminder of her creativity and skill.
Bessie had an incredible bond with animals, particularly dogs. Her canine companions held a special place in her heart, bringing joy and companionship into her life. The love she shared with them was immeasurable, and they brought great happiness to her days.
Bessie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and kindness that will forever be remembered.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Robert Gobble; grandson, Timothy Little; and great granddaughter, Nevaeh Fields.
She is survived by her three sons; John Fields, Matthew McCoy, and Benny Hess; sister Eva Cody and brother-in-law Harvey; brother Jessie Helton and sister-in-law Karen; grandchildren Allen Wright, Brandon Gobble, Mark Gobble, Jay Fields, John McCoy, Nikki Widner, Jessica Morrison, and Bradley Moore; sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Each one of them holds cherished memories of moments spent with Bessie Sue.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at Baptist Cemetery, Forest Hill Drive, Glade Spring, VA, with Chad Thompson and Brayden Marshall officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 9th, 2024 at Main Street Chapel-Farris Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Chad Thompson, Brayden Marshall, Zachary Dean, Ely Dean, Aaron Horn, Justin Morrison, and Tre Widner.
