Abingdon, VA – Bessie Taylor Orr, age 89, passed on Monday, November 24, 2014, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Orr was born in Superior, WV to the late Charlie and Olivene Callahan Taylor. Bess was a member of Sinking Springs Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and Elder. She also worked at Crabtree Buick for 51 years. In addition to her parents, Bess is preceded in death by her husband, James M. “Si” Orr; two brothers, Charlie Taylor and William “Billy” Taylor; and three sisters, Lucille Taylor Bryant, Margaret “Peggy” Taylor Lester, and Ruth Taylor Roberts. She is survived by her daughter, Connie S. Davenport and husband Michael of Afton, TN; two grandchildren, Shana Stiles and Andrew M. Davenport; great grandson, Andrew D. Davenport; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the men of the Taylor family serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Crabtree, Keith Crabtree, Everette White, Bobby Gill, and Kenneth Minor. Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain States Hospice or Second Harvest Food Bank in Mrs. Orr’s name.
