Betty Lou Doss, born on May 23, 1941, in Marion, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, in Abingdon, Virginia leaving behind a legacy of kindness love, and culinary excellence.

A graduate of Liberty Hall High School in 1959, Betty dedicated her life to serving others, particularly in her role at various nursing facilities where she worked diligently as a nurses aide, in housekeeping and in administration. Her compassionate spirit and nurturing demeanor impacted the lives of many, illustrating her commitment to care for those in need.

Betty was not only known for her professional endeavors but also for her remarkable culinary talents. Every meal she prepared showcased her skill and love, often leaving family and friends talking about the delicious flavors she effortlessly brought to life in her cooking.

In addition to her career and culinary passions, Betty found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She reveled in the tranquility of working outdoors, taking great pride in her flower garden. Her connection to the farm, where she raised tobacco, symbolized her dedication to hard work and her love for nature.

A kind and welcoming personality, Betty had the innate ability to make others feel at ease, embodying a warmth that was felt by everyone she encountered. Her love for her family was evident, and she cherished the time spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be carried forward by those who loved her.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Annie Hamm; her daughter, Reba Thomas; her sister, Libby O'Quinn; four brothers, Jack Hamm, Lee Hamm, Allen Hamm and Bob Hamm and her brother-in-law, Raymond Davis.

Betty Lou Doss is survived by her loving sons, James Hamm and Beth of Marion, VA, Ronnie Doss and Angie of Glade Spring, VA, Douglas Doss and Crystal of Abingdon, VA and Carroll Doss and Amanda of Abingdon, VA; her daughters, Judy Doss of Abingdon, VA and Connie Page and Larry of WV. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Davis; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her special friend, Sandra Pettit; and numerous nieces and nephews.

To honor her memory, a visitation will be held on November 7, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel in Abingdon, VA, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM with Danny Thompson officiating. Betty will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to thrive in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
