Betty Jane Sullins Whitehurst, 72, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Betty was born in Washington County, VA on February 24, 1937, to the late Fred and Mattie Sullins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Bailey and her sister, Thelma Baughman.
She is survived by two sons, Buster Bailey, Jr. of Abingdon and Ronnie Fields of Orlando, FL; one daughter Tammy Cardoza and her husband Daniel of Apopka, FL; six brothers: Charles Sullins and his wife Nona, Wyndom Sullins and his wife Sandy, Raymond Sullins and his wife Mary, Carl Sullins and his wife Hattie Mae, and Dean Sullins, all of Abingdon; and Darrell Sullins of Greeneville, TN; four sisters: Anna Mae Gobble, Jannus Casey and her husband Dean, Mary Ray and her husband Dexter, and Carol Tate and her husband Jack, all of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Betty Whitehurst will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Paul Price officiating. Burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, from 6-8 pm.
