Betty Mae Anderson Ferrier

April 28, 1930 — February 20, 2013

Betty Mae Ferrier (nee Anderson), a lifelong resident of Abingdon, died on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the age of 82. She was born April 28, 1930 to the late John Anderson, Sr. and Janie Anderson.

Mrs. Ferrier attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Abingdon and had many friends. Mrs. Ferrier retired from Job Corps to provide home care for several Abingdon families and was active in local and state politics. She was active in community service and worked at the Highlands Festival and election polls each year. She was on the board of directors for People Incorporated and was instrumental in the development of ElderSpirit. She was also on the board of the Abingdon Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Mrs. Ferrier is predeceased by her husband, Lester J. Ferrier, Sr. Mrs. Ferrier is survived by her children: Mary Rogers of Warner-Robbins, GA and husband Carl Rogers, Nancy Carter of Gray, Tenn., Stan Carter of Columbia, SC and wife Deborah Carter, and Lester Ferrier, Jr. of Greensboro, NC and wife, Michelle Ferrier. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Sierra, Austen, and Haile Ferrier; and Christopher and Angelica Rogers; along with three brothers: Joseph Anderson, Lawrence Anderson, and James Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service at 427 East Main Street in Abingdon. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at Christ the King Church, 820 East Main Street, at 1 p.m., Monday, February 25 with Father Francis Xavier Musolooza officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Garden at 19415 Lee Highway in Abingdon.
