Billie Howard Blevins, age 81, passed on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Billy was born in the Green Cove area of Washington County, VA to the late Clifton Blevins and Ethel Mae Blevins. Mr. Blevins served as a medic with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was Chief of the Clemmons, California Fire Dept. before moving to Abingdon in 1970.

Billy was the owner of Abingdon Discount Furniture and a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club of Eastern, TN. He had a passion for restoring old cars, loved to watch the History Channel, was a huge Oakland Raiders fan, loved antiques, and collected old phonographs.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Grey Sturgill.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jane W. Blevins; son, Eddie (Rhonda) Bowen of Christiansburg, VA; daughter, Tam (Matt) Smith of Abingdon, VA; brothers, Cecil Blevins of Glade Spring, VA, Ted (Glenda) Blevins of Chilhowie, VA, and Jerry (Cathy) Blevins of Georgia; sisters, Helen Blevins of Chilhowie, VA and Jean Blevins of Florida; grandchildren, Lauren Hand, Richard Bowen, and Hannah Moore; great-grandchildren, Luke, Yuri, and Brady; and special friends, Don Wirt and D.J. Busby.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2013, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Tim Blevins officiating. Pallbearers will be Don Wirt, Roger Prevento, Richard Bowen, Lance Moore, Matt Hand, Troy Kestner, Matt Smith, and Roger Sturgill. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.

Visitation with the family will be held 12-2 p.m. Thursday at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Those wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all of Mr. Blevins' caregivers for their kindness and care over the past two years.
