Birt Reedy Burke Carroll, age 86, passed on Monday, May 27, 2013 at Grace Health Care. Birt loved flowers, gardening, taking Sunday rides, and her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Clarence Burke and Mary Elizabeth McFadden Burke; husband, Cecil Homer Dickenson; and nine siblings.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Jane Reynolds of Abingdon, VA, Donna Marie Cox of Meadowview, VA, and Lois Ann Wise and husband J.D. of Abingdon, VA; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Bro. Billy Hawkins officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday just prior to the service.
A committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Counts Family Cemetery with Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to go the cemetery in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. Thursday.
