Blanche C. Vance

Blanche C. Vance, age 86, of 846 Panacella Dr. Abingdon, VA passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born in Benhams, Kentucky but considered Southwest Virginia her home. She was of the Protestant faith. As a graduate of Johnston Memorial School of Nursing in Abingdon, VA and Robert Packer School of Anesthesia in Sayre, PA. her specialty was in Anesthesia. She practiced nursing at the Medical and Surgical Cardiac Institute until her retirement in 1981. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Nora Couch Cook; son, John Fred Vance; brothers, Melvin Cook, Bruce Thomas Cook; and sisters, Virgie Joyce Cook, Nina Cook White, Gladys Cook, Barbara Cook Mays.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Vance; daughters, Elizabeth Thompson of Liberty, SC, Barbara Coffman of Tulsa, OK, and Jade Jones of Johnson City, TN; sister, Shirley Sproles of Abingdon, VA; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00P.M. Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, VA with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Virginia Creeper Trail Club, P.O. Box 2382, Abingdon, VA 24212, in Mrs. Vance's honor.
