Brenda Joyce Smith Stein

Abingdon, VA- Brenda Joyce Smith Stein, age 66, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at her home. She was born to the late Stuart Hassell Smith and Sophia Griffith Smith on September 7, 1947 in Buchanan County, VA. She graduated from Virginia Intermont with a double major in Business Management and Biology. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was completely devoted to her family while also enjoying her career as a Biologist for the State of Virginia. She later worked as a Deputy Commissioner of Revenue where she took pride in helping the citizens of Washington County, VA and being of service to others. She is survived by her loving husband of 9 years, William Ashley Stein, Jr.; son, Travis Williams and wife Elizabeth of Bristol, TN; daughter, Leah Alfino and husband Michael of Huntersville, NC; three grandchildren, Bryce and Alana Sophia Alfino and Carson Williams; brother, William Smith of Glade Spring, VA; and sister, Gwen Overbay of Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Abingdon Church of Christ, 19508 Dennison Drive, Abingdon, VA 24211. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with Bill Haywood, Minister officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Global Cures (global-cures.org).
