Brownie Elizabeth Yeager, formerly of Abingdon, VA, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at The Oaks of Lynchburg where she had been a resident for two and one-half years.
Born October 8, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Paul R. Yeager and Sara Myers Rorer. She was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) M. Plymale. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church.
A graduate of Gretna High School and National Business College, Brownie began her 45 year career with Appalachian Electric Power Co. in 1939 during the construction of Claytor Dam. In 1941 she transferred to the Pulaski District and later to the Bluefield Division. In 1945 she returned to the Pulaski Commercial Department; ten years later she moved to the Abingdon Managerial Division where she served six district/division managers over the next 29 years until her retirement in December 1984.
She is survived by two sisters, Lucille Y. Shelton (Neville) of Gretna, VA, and Pauline (Polly) G. Mitchell of Pulaski, VA. In addition, she is survived by three nieces, one nephew and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial services for Miss Yeager will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA, with Rev. Sherry Boles and Dan Carson officiating. Enurnment will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, adjacent to the mausoleum.
