Bureda Stallard Freeman, 87, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Wexford House Nursing home in Kingsport, TN.
Bureda was born May 31, 1923 in Coeburn, VA the daughter of the late David and Ola Stallard. Bureda lived most of her life in the community of Herald, VA. She attended Coeburn High School and the last year at Ervington High School. That was when she met and married the love of her life, Willard Freeman on July 28, 1939.
She is survived by six children: Patsy (Gary) Robinson, The Villages, FL: Rebecca (Bill) Marston, Middletown, MD.; Linda Gillenwater, Swannanoha, NC; Nancy (Jake) Pyle, Gate City, Va.; Melissa (Kevin) Delauter of Smithburg, Md.; and one son, Christopher Freeman of Washington, D. C. She is also survived by a sister, Loretta Boyes of Swannanoha, N. C. and a brother, Leonard Stallard of Tuscon, Arizona.
Bureda was preceded in death by brothers, Artice, Hershell, Derl, Verby and sisters Ellelia and Beatrice
After the death of her husband, Bureda moved to Maryland to be closer to her children. Living a few years there, she decided she wanted to be closer to "home" and in 1992 she settled in Abingdon. She was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall in Meadowview, VA
A memorial service for Mrs. Freeman will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Tony Salfi officiating. The family will receive friends following the service during a reception at Farris Funeral Center, 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA.
