Canie Verlin Alexander, age 84, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2018, at his home. He was a Korean War Veteran having served in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force.
Canie was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Belle; father, Charlie Blaine Alexander; four brothers; two sisters; and two daughters.
He is survived by a sister, two sons, Charles Anthony Alexander of Bristol, Va. and Roger Paul Alexander of Bristol, Va.; several nieces and nephews, many wonderful grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
Canie enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories of his youth. He loved to play his guitar and sing, he also liked to hunt and to take his grandchildren fishing. Canie was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was of the Christian faith and was a light in everyone’s lives. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Sugar Grove Baptist Church, 18648 Benhams Rd. Bristol, Va. 24202, with Pastor J. Darren Duncan officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Air Force.
