Carl C. Cannon, age 81, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born February 23, 1936, to the late Lloyd B. Cannon and Ada Hutton Cannon.
Carl never met a stranger. He valued getting to know people and could often be found making connections with the many folks he encountered in his work in the community and as a truck driver. Much of Carl’s life was spent working to provide for his family and help others in whatever way he could. Though he was by no means wealthy, Carl gladly donated much of what he had to charity and gave whatever he could to anyone with a need. He could often be found laughing and joking with others, teaching his family the importance of finding joy in everything they did, and eating a good banana split anytime the opportunity presented itself. Carl held no grudges and left a lasting impression of what genuine forgiveness and selflessness looks like. He was truly a man of unwavering courage and love; he will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, Carl was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mabel Thomas Cannon; and three brothers, Earl, Coy, and Thurl Cannon.
He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Cannon Moser and husband, Phillip, of Emory, Va.; two grandchildren, Grace and Zen Moser; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Thomas of Abingdon, Va. and Bertha Cannon of Glade Spring, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Don Paxton officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Craig Cannon, Wayne Cannon, Johnny Caudill, David Millsap, Ricky Thomas, and Tommy Wilcox will serve as pallbearers.
