Carl Eugene "Gene" Foran, 71, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at his home following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Gene was born May 24, 1938 to the late Clarence and Bessie Goodson Foran. He worked for twenty-one years at Singleton's Auto Parts and had retired from Bristol Compressors. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and building wooden swings. Gene bowled with the Friday Night Mixed League and Tuesday Industrial League. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother Lonnie Foran, and two sisters Carolyn Sullins and Thelma Rhymer.
Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, Dean Foran and his wife April of Bristol, VA and Carl E. Foran, Jr.; three daughters, Tina Howell and her husband Jamie of Meadowview, VA; Barbara Davenport and her husband Mark of Abingdon; and Pam Powell of Delaware; two brothers, Larry Foran and his wife Karen of Abingdon, and Gerald Foran of FL; one sister Adena Woodard of Jamestown, NY; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Carl " Gene" Foran will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 2 pm at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Bob McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dean Foran, Jamie Howell, Roger Call, Aaron Murray, Jamie Sullins and Butch Franks. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Neagle, Johnny Degon, Larry Foran, and Jerry Foran. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 7-9pm at the funeral home.
