Mr. Carl W. Widener, better known as "Bill", 78, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home. He was born on March 7, 1932 to the late John Henry and Maggie Nola Roark Widener and had been a carpenter all of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Brenda C. Colley and four sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years Carrie Lee Widener, and daughters Linda K. Singleton, Elizabeth Ann Widener, and Bonnie L. Widener, all of Abingdon. One sister, Eula "Inez" Warren and husband Sherman; two brothers Henry and John Widener of Abingdon; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren with two more on the way; several nieces and nephews and well-known friends.
Services for Carl "Bill" Widener will be conducted Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Farris Funeral Chapel, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon with Rev. Paul Price and Pastor Gary Roark officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Butch Jones, Dan Bieger, Bill Nunley, Jason Harris, Paul Sullins, and Junior Widener. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Porterfield, Jim Gentry, J.C. Harris, Roger Robinson, Bob Bundy, Jim Rankin, Randal Robinson, David Farris, and Hubert Price.
