Carmen Hazel York Warden, age 91, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1927, to the late Mike Emmett York and Angela Grace Daughtery York in Switchback, W. Va. She was a graduate of Matoaka High School and during World War II she was employed by the National Electric Coil Company in Bluefield, W.Va. Hazel was a Girl Scout Troop Leader from 1960-1964 and was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and Circle.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was also preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Warden; son, James Richard "Rick" Warden, II; daughter, Sandra Carmen “Sandy” Warden; great grandson, Porter Harper; and six siblings, Edgar York, Josie Russo, Reba Dillon, Beatrice Godfrey, Betty Miller, and Clinton York
She is survived by her youngest brother, Coy York and wife, Charlotte, of Princeton, W.Va.; granddaughter, Pauly Johnson and husband, Chris, of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews; and two great grandchildren, Emily and Jack Johnson.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Ron Gilmer officiating.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the care provided by Abingdon Health and Rehab Center, Caris Hospice, and the after-school youth group of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church.
