Carolyn Joyce Haught

Carolyn “Carol” Joyce Haught went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 8, 2024. She passed at her home on Applejack Road in Bristol, VA. Carol was born on September 7, 1944 in High Point, NC to parents Jasper V. Holdaway and Mary Lou (Eanes) Holdaway who preceded her in death. Carol was the oldest of their five children and was preceded in death by her siblings Pat Jarrett, Janie Holmes, Danie Holdaway and Joseph Holdaway. 

Carol is survived by her husband Jacob R. Haught, DVM, children John English (Tonya), Yuba City, CA, Kelly Davis, Johnson City, TN, Jacob Haught (Patti), Mendota, VA & Kelly Haught, Columbia, SC, and her grandchildren Gwen Nyairo, Carolyne Franzen, Paul English, Haley Bell, Olivia Adkins, Ava Hickerson, Harper Davis, John Haught and James Haught. Carol has 16 great grandchildren and leaves behind her loyal four-legged companion George.

Carol had a passion for the medical field and worked for a number of years for Dr. Spatz in Huntington Park, CA. She moved back to Virginia where she met and married Jacob R. Haught, DVM, and since 1987 has resided with him on their farm in Bristol, VA. Carol had many interests including camping, trail riding and cooking. Her special carne asada was a family favorite. Carol managed a horse and cattle breeding operation on the Applejack Farm. She was an avid horsewoman. Carol loved caring for the mares and foals and could be found at the barn all hours of the day and night during spring foaling. Carol loved her family, traveling and country music. She attended the First Church of God in Bristol, TN and loved her Church family.  Carol will be terribly missed by us all and our lives will be less bright without her in it.

Carol loved flowers but she had been a heart patient for 30 years surviving bypass surgery, multiple stints and all the complications that can occur with those treatments, so in lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association in her name will be greatly appreciated.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA 24210 with a funeral service starting at 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens 19415 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA.  Officiating will be Pastor Dwight Marlow, pallbearers will be James Haught, John Haught, Howard Jessie, Dick Tilson, Billy Kinder & Delphino Castro.
