Bristol, VA Carroll Hammons, age 80, passed on Saturday, March 19, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Carroll was raised in Bee, VA, lived in Clintwood, VA for 35 years, and moved to Abingdon, VA in 1987. He was a retired coal miner having spent over 30 years in the mines. Carroll enjoyed going to auctions and selling things at flea markets. He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Myrtle Stanley Hammons; sons, Carl Gene Hammons and Gary Wayne Hammons; brothers, Elmer Hammons and Hobart Hammons; and sister, Faye Hammons.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 57 years, Roxie Rose Hammons; son, Mitchell Hammons and fiance Ruth of Meadowview, VA; daughter, Charlotte Beavers and husband Anthony of Fancy Gap, VA; brothers, Palmer Hammons and William Hammons and wife Edith, both of Dickenson, County, VA; sisters, Sue Hammons of Bessiemer, NC and Kay Quinlan and husband Charlie of Norton, VA; grandchildren, Scotty Hammons, Terry Hammons, Dean Beavers, Gabrielle Edens, and Kayanna Beavers; great grandchildren, Kyle Edens, Kaitlyn Hammons, and Keithan Hammons; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Lonnie Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
