Catherine Elizabeth Bryan Broyles

Catherine Elizabeth Bryan Broyles, age 81, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born to the late Newton Warren Bryan and Frances Minnick Bryan on June 5, 1935, in Washington County, Va. She was a graduate of Meadowview High School class of 1954, was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, and belonged to the Home Demonstration Club.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Rexford Broyles; and a sister, Dorothy Bryan Addair.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Broyles Swiney and husband Preston of Laurinburg, N.C.; brother, John “Bob” Bryan of Broadway, Va.; three sisters, Helen Bryan and Jane Bryan both of Abingdon and Sue Williams and husband Vernie of Meadowview, Va.; granddaughter, Kelsey Swiney of Abingdon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Donna Garrett and Julie Lunn.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at Knollkreg Memorial Park where Timmy Bryan, Phil Garrett, Jack Lunn, Mark Orfield, Bryan Williams, and Darrell Williams will serve as pallbearers. Danny Broyles, Eddie Gray, Stewart Larkey, Freddie Odum, and Glenn Orfield will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
