Charles Eugene "Gene" Cooper, age 93, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at his home. Mr. Cooper was born May 23, 1920, in Lake City, TN to the late Samuel Cooper and Ann Giles Cooper. Gene was a member of State Street United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, and the Kiwanis. Gene worked in the automobile retail industry for sixty years and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in accounting.
Mr. Cooper was a very energetic man who loved to walk, garden, and work hard. He was well known for his knowledge of business, his brilliant mind, and his caring spirit. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Charles Eugene "Bud" Cooper, and seven siblings.
Gene is survived by the love of his life and wife of 70 years, Pauline Jamison Cooper; son, David Cooper and wife Vickie of Bristol, VA; two daughters, Connie Cooper Hyland and husband Clem of Sanford, FL and Polly Cooper Jennings and husband Hank of Nashville, TN; daughter-in-law, Peggy Cooper of Bristol, VA; sister, Billie Ruth Barker; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
