Dateline: Bristol, Va.- Lt. (Ret.) Charles Frederick Fred Eaton, Sr., age 81, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born near Bane, Giles County, Va. on August 11, 1934, a son of the late Charlie Cook Eaton and Elizabeth Stafford Eaton. Fred graduated from Pearisburg High School in 1952, worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant from 1952-1956, and then served in the United States Army in Korea. A 1959 graduate of the State Police Academy, he was assigned to Wise County and served there until 1963 when he was assigned to Pulaski County. Fred was promoted to Sergeant and relocated to Bristol, Va. where he was promoted to First Sergeant and finally Lieutenant before retiring in 1991. He proudly wore and brought honor to the uniform. An avid sports fan, he played for the Bluff City Ducks baseball team and the Mountain View baseball league. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies, camping, and spending time with his brothers. Fred was a huge Virginia Tech fan. He was a member of Eggleston Lodge #309 AF AM. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Elizabeth Eaton; and three brothers, Wylie, Roland, and Pat Eaton.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dolores Eaton; three sons: Charles Frederick Chuck Eaton, Jr. and wife Linda of Blacksburg, Va.; Joe Campbell of Orlando, Fla.; and Anthony Campbell and wife Lea-Anne Campbell of Bristol, Va; three brothers: Frank L. Eaton of Farmers Branch, Texas; Tom and Shirl Eaton of Glen Allen; Va.; and Tobie Eaton and wife Annis of Salem, Va.; sister-in-law, Carole S. Eaton of Pearisburg, Va.; six grandchildren: Charles Frederick Chaz Eaton III and wife Alicia of Christiansburg, Va.; Clint Eaton of Blacksburg, Va.; Andrea Campbell of Orlando, Fla.; Mackensey Campbell; Landon Campbell; and Jada Campbell all of Bristol, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A second visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 11th in the mausoleum of Birchlawn Burial Park, 177 Birchlawn Circle, Pearisburg, Va. 24134, followed by a cryptside service at 2:00 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. Fred Austin officiating. Pallbearers will be Chaz Eaton, Chris Eaton, Cliff Eaton, Clint Eaton, Terry Eaton, and Tony Eaton. Members of the Virginia State Police Honor Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers.
