Charles Neil Martin, 69, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at his home following a brief illness.

He was born in Belleville, Arkansas and was a son of the late Carl and Reba Rutledge Martin. He served with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and retired with 20 years of service working primarily in communications. He then settled in Stewartstown, PA where he worked in a factory for general defense before retiring after 28 years of employment and coming to Meadowview two years ago. He was a member, for over 20 years, of the Sharon Freewill Baptist Church in Forest Hill, Maryland and had attended Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church here.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Hensley Martin; daughters, Carla Arney and husband, Tim of Stewartstown, PA, and Theresa Downs and husband, Pete of Stewartstown, PA; a son, Joseph Martin and wife, Krystal of Windsor, PA; grandchildren, Tonya Downs, Brittany Martin, Caitlyn Arney, Courtney Martin, Colton Arney, and Brandon Martin; four brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Charles Martin will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church, 21110 Spoon Gap Road, Abingdon, VA 24210 with Rev. Herbert Bailey officiating. Interment will take place at Hensley-Addington Cemetery near Norton, Virginia at 3:00 P.M. Saturday. Pallbearers will be Joseph Martin, Steve Hensley, Scott Hensley, Jared Lee, Jake Demaske, III and Tim Denman. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
