Charles Paul Sturgill, age 65, passed Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at his home. Mr. Sturgill was a 1967 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, where he played football. He is also a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was formerly employed by Byrd & Goff Construction. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul Sturgill and Norma Jean Johnson Sturgill.
He is survived by one son, Chris Sturgill and wife Twyla of Kinston, NC; two sisters, Doris Moore Pennington and husband Johnny of Saltville, VA and Shirley Boothe and husband Roy of Bristol, VA; three grandchildren, Rylee Sturgill, Lindsey Sturgill, and Alissa Jackson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby Johnson, David Snodgrass and Mark Owens.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Richard Holmes officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. It was Mr. Sturgill's request to be cremated after the service.
