Charles Xavier McHugh, Jr.

Weeki Wachee, FL- Charles Xavier “Chuck” McHugh, Jr., age 69, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 in Weeki Wachee, FL following a courageous battle with cancer during which he maintained a positive attitude and never gave up. He was born on July 4, 1944 the first of five children born to the late Charles Xavier McHugh, Sr. and Alice Rhiel McHugh. He received his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University and graduated from the University of Tennessee with his Master’s Degree. Following graduation Chuck and his wife, Annette, relocated to FL where he worked in Health and Rehabilitative Services. The family later returned to Southwest Virginia where he was employed by Highlands Community Services as the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Director. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and golf. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Annette Caywood McHugh; three sons; Charles Xavier “Trey” McHugh III and Jeffrey Ryan McHugh both of Bristol, TN and Matthew Mikel McHugh and wife Kimberly of Bristol, VA; three brothers: Patrick McHugh and wife Sue of Alexandria, VA; Mike McHugh and wife Jane of San Diego, CA; and Larry McHugh and wife Cherry of Montross, VA; sister, Cathy McHugh of Alexandria, VA; and three grandchildren, Charles Xavier “Charlie” McHugh IV, and Emory and Eden McHugh. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Blazier officiating. Honorary pallbearers include his friend of 40 years, Tony Lee; brother-in-law and friend, Ronald Caywood; the physicians and staff of M.D. Anderson, Orlando, Dr. Kayaleh, Dr. Ramakrishna, and Dr. Nick; and all of the many friends he made throughout his career.
