CHERI ANNETTE WAGNER
January 1, 1954 – May 26, 2022
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Anna Belle Wagner. She is survived by her sister, Jennifer Wagner, of Meadowview; her brother, David Baty (Linda) of Lynchburg; and cat, Pong, of the home.
Cheri was a delightful, spontaneous, courageous, magnetic, “swirling dervish”, a master of witty retorts and a sometimes aggravating sister, cousin, friend.
She was a really dear and loveable character, whom one of her friends described as “what God would take to show and tell and proudly say, ‘I made this’.”
Cheri had a wide range of training, talents and interests; acting (in college and off-off Broadway); a Manhattan trained ‘florinaire’ (“a florist who has a million ideas”) and a London trained medical herbalist. She was also a far-flung world traveler, organic farmer and gardener, lover of every animal, highly creative cook, and one who was always available to help and care for others as the need arose.
Her many beloved friends, the world over, both long term and recent, were a source of joy and comfort to her. Ask anyone who knew her and they will have at least one wholly unique Cheri story.
She counted her blessings and was grateful for a full, enriched life. She liked her toast with a hug, her eggs with a kiss, and to sing “I’m doing alright for a mountain gal.”
A celebration of her remarkable life will be held in the future. Should you wish to make a memorial donation please consider Animal Defense League, PO Box 2099, Abingdon, VA 24212
