Abingdon, Va. – Cheryl Denise Justus Thornsbury, age 54, of Abingdon, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born May 3, 1966, to Elza Justus and Sarah (Sally) Lester Justus, in Grundy, Virginia.
Cheryl will always be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, and friend. She was always positive and encouraging, even on her worst days.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Christopher Ronald Thornsbury; son, Jordan Edison Thornsbury; maternal grandparents, James and Betty Lester; paternal grandparents, Ayers and Bertha Justus; special cousin, Michelle Thompson Edwards ; and special Aunt Judy and Uncle Jimmy Lester.
She is survived by her son, Justin McKenzie Thornsbury (Sandra) of Abingdon; sister, Enisha Everett of Jacksonville, North Carolina; her companion, Neeko, her white Siberian Husky; special aunt, Mary Thompson (Blane); special uncles, Ted Lester (Rhonda), and Billy Paul Justus (Bertha); cousins, Melanie Russell, Kari Lester Cline, Ryan Lester, Shannon Lester, Madeline Edwards, and Mason Edwards. Cheryl also leaves behind other special people in her life: the Thornsbury family; her church family; and everyone who touched her life, and all the lives she touched.
A Cryptside service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 2:00 PM, at Greenhills Memory Gardens, with Preacher Mike Rife officiating. Caleb Yarber, Ryan Lester, Russell Thornsbury, Joe Smith, Joey Smith, and Joseph Petro will serve as pallbearers. Blane Thompson, Cliff Everett, and Shannon Lester will serve as honorary pallbearers. In accordance with Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing practices will be implemented, and face masks will be required for attendance.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
