Christopher Michael Gillespie, age 41, of Abingdon, Va. and previously of North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at his home. He was a 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and a 1998 graduate of Radford University. He was an avid fan of Virginia Tech.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Douglas Gillespie; paternal grandparents, L.P. Gillespie and Mozella Wright Gillespie; maternal grandparents, Ollie OQuinn and Beatrice Mullins OQuinn; and Black Lab, Apollo, who was his beloved companion for 15 years.
Chris is survived by his mother, Judy OQuinn Gillespie of the home; two uncles, Danny OQuinn and wife Terry of Abingdon, Va. and Bobby OQuinn and wife Linda of Johnson City, Tenn.; two aunts, Sherry Sutton of El Paso, Texas and Bonnie Sue Vanhoy of Chilhowie, Va.; his beloved English Bulldog, Keehlan; cat, Monk; and numerous extended family members.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Dwayne Dillard officiating and special memories by Cristie Blevins Lester. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4th at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Michael Terry, Darrell Boyd, David Hurd, Danny OQuinn, Jr., Aaron DeBord, Logan DeBord, Addison DeBord, and Tim Lamie will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon of Radford University. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
