Clarence J. Barker, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2016, while residing at English Meadows in Abingdon, Va. Mr. Barker was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a faithful minister and Bible teacher throughout his life serving various churches. Upon his retirement from Unisys, he lived in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for 25 years before returning to Abingdon in recent years. Mr. Barker was a member of and, as health permitted, faithfully attended Pilgrim Baptist Church in Abingdon.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Laura Sue Blevins Barker; two sons: Phil Barker and wife Debbie, and Pat Barker and wife Sherry; three daughters: Pam Leonard and husband Ken, Paula Kotzmoyer and husband Rich, and Pandy Lester and husband Kevin; one sister, Mary Smith; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
The funeral service for Clarence J. Barker will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 16438 Pilgrim Lane, Abingdon, VA 24211, with Pastor Austin Cook and Pastor Doug Findley officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon where grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at the church.
