Abingdon, Va. – Mr. Claude Cecil Shortt, age 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday October 12, 2015 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Claude was born on October 24, 1922 in Washington County, Va. He had been a member of Woodland Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served as a deacon and was the oldest member. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Pearl Bryant Shortt; his parents Thomas and Myrtle Wilson Shortt; and a number of brothers and sisters. Claude is survived by his brother Clifford Shortt; sisters Shirley Wilfred, Una Faye Carbary, Ann Grubb, and Nancy Bailey and husband Roger. He was a special father and uncle to his niece Valerie Thayer and her children Kellsey, Kaleigh and Kolton Thayer. A funeral service for Mr. Claude Cecil Short will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Bob McCormick officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, or anytime at the home of Valerie Thayer. A committal service for Mr. Shortt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Don Davenport, Hobart Brooks, Calvin Gobble, Dale Bailey, David Bailey, Nelson Shortt and Kolton Thayer serving as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class at Woodland Baptist Church. A procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
