Claude J. Reedy a native of Virginia and resident of Carolina Shores, NC passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 in Bolivia, NC.
He was a 1964 graduate of Whitewood High School in Buchanan County, VA. He earned a Bachelor's degree in 1968 from Pikeville College and a Master's degree in 1971 from Radford College.
Claude was a teacher, school administrator and purchasing director for Tazewell County Schools from 1968 until 2002 and a school administrator for Bland County Schools from 2003-2005. He also served as an ITRT for Henry County Schools from 2006-2010. Claude was well known for his educational leadership skills, his passion for public education and his compassion for his students.
Claude was a true gentleman, he enjoyed playing golf and walking the Creeper Trail. He was an immaculate dresser. Claude kept a meticulous yard, garden and home. He loved to cook for his family and had perfected his recipe for cheesecakes.
He took joy being a dad to Celden and Carys. Claude taught them kindness, love and respect. Claude's greatest gift to his children was teaching them about Jesus.
Claude is survived by his wife of 32 years, Courtney Harper Reedy; their son, Celden Reedy, a junior at the University of TN in Knoxville, TN; their daughter, Carys Reedy, a sophomore at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Betty Griffitts of Saltville, VA; brothers-in-law, Craig and Bradley Harper of Saltville, VA; Joe Harper of Troutdale, VA, sisters-in-law April Mitchell of Troutdale, VA, Vicki Montgomery of Saltville, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents, Claude H. and Pauline J. Reedy; his father-in-law, Ralph Griffitts and sister-in-law, Ann G. Bordwine.
During his life and illness, the family was blessed by friends who continually supported them: Missy and Tim Harrington, Shawn and Shonna McGuire, David and Rhonda Hicks, Terry and Irene Mullins, Bill and Mady Bay, Paula McAlexander, David Eastridge, Debbie Ohlson, John Lamie, Wendy Blanton and David Lambert.
The family would like to give a huge thank you to Chris and Robyn of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and the entire staff of SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
