Abingdon, VA – Cleo Pierce, age 96, passed on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN. Cleo was very faithful and was proud to be a born again Christian. She was a homemaker for many years but did work at Statzers Restaurant in Abingdon for a time. She loved being outdoors watching the birds while tending to her garden and canned the vegetables she grew. She had a love of shopping also. But above all, her true love was her family. She knew and loved all of her extended family and was very devoted to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Minnie Casey; two husbands, Ralph Rhoten and Dale Pierce; a great granddaughter, Sabella Joy McDowell; six sisters and six brothers.
Cleo is survived by her daughter, Judy Everhart (Conley) of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Sonya Webb of Baltimore; four great grandchildren, Corey Everhart of Baltimore, Sasha Smith (Alton) of Bolton, NC, Shilah Webb of Baltimore and Sophia McDonell of Baltimore; eight great-great grandchildren, Farrah Webb, Elijah Crawford, Daniel Jay, Alorah Jay, Thomas Jay, Skylah Smith, Joziah Smith and Saiha Smith; two brothers, Jennings (Viola) Casey of Aberdeen, MD and Dean Casey of Glade Spring, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023, with Pastor Caleb Holeman officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to gather by 1:45 p.m. at the cemetery.
